Dear John,
Spring into learning with upcoming webinars! The Field Services & Education team has April and May webinar options ready and open for registration, including:
Local Officer Orientation | Friday, April 9 (1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. ET): This 4-hour New Leaders Orientation webinar covers legal, fiduciary, and reporting requirements of local officers. Planning and budgeting for a strong, effective local is discussed.
Stewards Online Orientation | Friday, April 16 (1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. ET):
A must for new stewards (or stewards who never received formal training), this 4-hour webinar overviews the role of the steward, active worksite representation, and one of the most important laws that outlines the rights of union representatives: 5 USC Chapter 71. This webinar is a prerequisite for the advanced stewards course, Grievance Handling 101, offered April 24.
Grievance Handling 101 | Saturday, April 24 (1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. ET) : This 4-hour webinar gives participants the knowledge they will need in order to process grievances effectively, including: the five-step process of handling a grievance, identifying whether an issue is a grievance, gathering written verification and proof, and the skills needed in writing a formal grievance. The prerequisite for this webinar is the basic Stewards Orientation webinar (offered April 16), or participants can take the self-paced basic stewards trainings found in the Stewards Toolkit on AFGE Learn. Participants should already be a steward at their local.
Reopening Amidst a Global Pandemic | Friday, April 30 (5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. ET): This webinar provides an overview of the phases of reopening agency offices and worksites. Participants will learn about their rights, roles, and responsibilities, as well as management responsibilities, during this 3-phased process. Topics to be discussed include: requirements for worksite hygiene, mask wearing, ventilation, and what to do if an employee becomes ill from exposure to COVID-19.
E-Dues: Building Power | Tuesday, May 18 (8:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. ET): Is your local interested in learning more about best practices for transitioning to E-Dues? This two-hour webinar outlines strategies for mobilizing teams, using workplace mapping to recruit with a purpose, and real examples of what has worked for other locals to successfully transition to E-Dues. This webinar is aimed at local leaders and stewards. If you have not already completed the Introduction to E-Dues self-paced online training, we recommend that you do so prior to the webinar; it takes about 15 minutes and is available at www.afge.org/edues
Also, don't forget about the AFGE National VA Council Health and Safety Conference! The deadline to register is quickly approaching so make sure you secure your spot. For the first time ever this conference is going virtual. This is a tremendous opportunity to learn about workers’ compensation, workers’ rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act, updates on OSHA national standards on COVID and policy changes, sexual harassment and bullying, and so much more.
Webinars are free and open to all members (unless otherwise noted). And, don’t forget about the dozens of self-paced, free online learning options and other resources available on the Education site! Click here to access the self-paced learning options.
“See” you in class!
In Solidarity,
