John,

The so called “War on Drugs” has always been a war on people — especially people of color. It’s past time to put an end to it.

For too long, our nation’s patchwork of racist drug policies have contributed to staggering mass incarceration rates and over-policing of communities of color.

The numbers speak for themselves: While Black Americans use marijuana at roughly the same rate as white Americans, they are approximately four times more likely to be arrested for possession. That’s wrong.

That’s why one of my top priorities in the House of Delegates was to legalize marijuana and expunge nonviolent convictions for possession in Virginia — I’m proud to be a co-sponsor of the bill that passed in February. Now, we’re working to build pressure so it can become law.

Add your name to my petition calling for legal weed in Virginia. It’s time that we finally put an end to the racist War on Drugs.

We can’t allow the status quo to go unchallenged. Good governing is about looking at the facts and making decisions that will improve life for real folks like you, and that means legalizing marijuana ASAP.

Thanks for signing on.
