Friend -- The Recall race is heating up, and our free and fair vote is at stake. We need to make sure everyone knows how dangerous this effort is to California's democracy. Will you help spread the word?
Friend,
The Republican recall of the governor of California is heating up, and new polling shows that there's a risk the governor losing.
A statewide poll has shown that 44% of Latinx voters are planning to vote in favor of recalling the governor, while only 41% are voting against it.(1)
These numbers are part of a dangerous trend of Democrats taking Latinx voters for granted. Donald Trump performed better than expected among Latinx voters in California and in other states where it was clear that Democrats didn't invest in listening to and communicating with these diverse communities. We can’t let Republicans outplay us again.
Courage California is planning to run Spanish-language ads explaining just how damaging a recall would be for working families, and we need your help to make these ads happen.
Will you donate to Courage California and help fund our Say No to the Recall campaign?
The recall election is already turning into a media circus. Billionaire Tom Steyer ran a poll about the recall with himself as a possible candidate.(2) Several Republicans have already announced their candidacies. We can expect multiple people, from politicians to celebrities to businesspeople, to jump into the ring -- in the 2003 recall, a whopping 135 candidates tried for the office.(3)
What we know now is that there are no sure-thing votes. The newest polling comes alongside a Washington Post report that shows that Trump gained Latinx voters, especially men, in part because his messaging resonated more strongly with them than the Democrats' messaging did.(4)
And the Recall campaign is filled with veterans of the Trump era. Trump backers are funding the Recall effort by the millions, and they'll be using the same playbook to try to win more of the Latinx vote.(5)
For generations, Democrats have assumed that Latinx communities are on their side and they could count on the Latinx vote. But the latest polling shows that Latinx voters feel unheard, and their communities were ravaged by the pandemic.(6)
A Republican governor of California is not the answer. The answer is a government focused on solving the housing crisis, strengthening workers' rights, and providing health care. Courage California is working with our partners to make sure that is the message that rises above the rest of the noise.
