ANNOUNCEMENTS

Branch Meetings – April 2021

Saturday, April 17 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

3 months into a Biden presidency, in the midst of multiple ongoing crises, how is DSA-LA building left opposition in Los Angeles? And what role is there for all of our members to play?

Join us as we host synchronous branch meetings all across LA county in order to learn from each other and discuss current campaigns, strategies, and opportunities to get involved. Meetings will be accessible in Spanish and English. Here’s what to expect:

  1. Register below using the link to your branch. (Not sure which branch you’re a part of? Check the list here!)
  2. After registration, you will be sent a Zoom link. Please join a few minutes early so we can start on time!
  3. The first portion of the meeting will be an interactive live stream shared across all 5 branches
  4. Then, all branches will work through an agenda prepared by their coordinators to highlight branch projects and create room for discussion about branch strategies and how to get involved.

We can't wait to see you there! Register by clicking on your branch below:

Steering Committee Statement of Support for Local Identity Caucuses

DSA Los Angeles is honored to be home to several active identity caucuses, including the LGBTQ+ Caucus, the AfroSocialists in LA Caucus and the Asian and Pacific Islander Caucus. It is a priority for this Steering Committee, - in line with our Chapter’s mission - to support members who are looking for opportunities to organize in these bodies and within other identity-based caucuses.

Recent conversations among members have revealed that the chapter has not been clear enough regarding the ways that chapter resources can be allocated for this type of organizing. In this statement we want to clarify that process, as well as share a commitment to developing relationships with the caucuses mentioned and any other similar identity formations.

Apply to help administrate DSA National Convention Delegate Elections

Within the next two months, our chapter will run an election for members interested in being delegates to the DSA National Convention. Steering Committee is looking to appoint at least 3 people to administrate our delegate election process and we need volunteers.

People appointed to this role will be unable to serve as delegates or alternates, but this role is still crucial for healthy internal democracy. If you would like to be considered, please apply! Training will be provided.

NOTE: More information about the upcoming convention will be shared with all members soon.

We will also be discussing the documentary Frantz Fanon: Black Skin, White Mask (available on Kanopy.) This is not a class, we emphasize dialogue and discussion, as such each meeting will be informal and focus on contributions from those attending, and folks of all levels of involvement are encouraged to join! We also try to make sure to ground our discussions in the organizing work that we’re doing on the ground, so discussions can hopefully be accessible to everyone even if one falls behind on the reading.

The Mutual Aid Book Club meets on the first and third Tuesday of every month.

Please RSVP to this event to get connection information.

  • What are concrete tools to facilitate?

  • How can I address common roadblocks to a conversation that flows?
