John, Gun violence is a multifaceted issue that plagues our nation in more ways than the mass shootings that break national news. And with gun sales surging to higher than ever levels, it’s never been more important to take action to keep our country safe.
That’s why the $5 billion in funding, over eight years, for community-based violence prevention programs from President Biden is so important. And, it’s arguably the largest funding for gun violence prevention in our nation’s history, proving that President Biden is committed to addressing this epidemic. This is a critical step toward addressing daily community gun violence. This is a huge victory, John, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the work of dedicated activists who have been working on the ground for decades to address gun violence in their communities. Black and Brown activists in particular have been essential to this fight to address everyday gun violence in a meaningful way. This win shows us what we can accomplish if we remain dedicated to this work. This is the kind of comprehensive, multifaceted solution that our country desperately needs, but it’s not the end of the fight.
