Despite already having more money than any one person needs, Jeff Bezos and Amazon are aggressively fighting a high-stakes union election at an Amazon warehouse in Bessemer, Alabama.
Yes, right now at a fulfillment center in Alabama, workers are fighting Amazon head-on as they attempt to form a union.
This is no small task, especially when Amazon has done everything in its power to crush this union organizing effort.
Headline after headline shows just how inhumane the working conditions at Amazon are. From stealing tips from delivery drivers to forcing workers to pee in bottles, Amazon will do everything they can to continue exploiting the labor of their employees.
We must bring this exploitation to an end.
Join us as we stand in solidarity with the Amazon workers in Bessemer, Alabama as they fight to improve their labor conditions.
Unions mean better wages, job security, and better working conditions.
They help ensure freedom to organize and give workers the ability to negotiate for higher wages and respect on the job.
A union can establish penalties for violation of workers’ rights, so no worker is forced to pee in a bottle (yes Amazon workers have had to do that), and they can strengthen all workers’ right to strike against injustice and abuse in the workplace.
So it’s not surprising that Amazon does not want their workers to unionize. After all, how can Jeff Bezos possibly afford his superyachts when his workers are making enough to put food on the table and keep a roof over their heads? (Little secret: he still could actually.)
The bottom line is that while we face unprecedented levels of wealth inequality, stagnant wages, and increasing job insecurity, working conditions like those seen at Amazon provide all the proof we need that our response to greedy bosses and corporations must be organized labor.
So while millions of people across this country struggle to put food on the table and are one paycheck away from economic devastation, we cannot allow the wealthiest person and his company to continue extracting that wealth from the exploitation of workers that truly make Amazon run.
This starts with all of us making our voices heard and being clear — loudly and directly — that Amazon’s era of exploiting its workers must end.
