John,

Our communities are struggling. Between the global pandemic, economic downturn, and the ever-worsening climate crisis, we need support from our government now more than ever. We know that recovery is finally on its way. Here at Dream Corps Green For All, we’re fighting to make sure we use this recovery to build a green, inclusive economy — putting people back to work in good-paying jobs that will make communities stronger and healthier than before.

We’ve already seen some wins this year, thanks to supporters like you. But we still have a lot to push for to ensure clean, equitable investments that our communities deserve.

Check out the information below to get up to speed on our campaign wins in 2021 and what work we still need to do:

Common Ground on Climate

Wins: The American Rescue Plan Act, which went into effect this month, included billions of dollars in investments for emergency utility bill relief, funding for public transit, and emergency rental assistance — all provisions we pushed for. We couldn’t have done this without thousands of supporters who sent letters, signed petitions, and made calls to the Senate.

What’s Next: While this is a promising start, it’s not enough to address the economic and environmental crises. We will continue pushing to make sure investments in weatherization efforts (prioritized for low-income households) and workforce training, electric school buses (with 40% carved out for school districts in frontline communities), electric ports, and inclusive hiring provisions are included in the upcoming American Jobs Plan.

#FuelChange

Wins: Our campaign manager, Nicole, joined almost 25 other speakers and coalition partners at a recent AC Transit Board meeting. They called for the board to reject a proposal to reduce social distancing on buses and instead use recently won federal relief money to increase service. Findings from our Securing Safe Transit report continue to resonate in ongoing fights for worker and rider safety.

What’s Next: We'll keep pushing for transit funding and recovery, as well as continuing our fight to electrify medium and heavy-duty vehicles on the road.

Green Jobs

Wins: This past month, our team convened a roundtable with BIPOC business leaders and entrepreneurs in the clean energy sector to discuss challenges and opportunities when it comes to building Black wealth in the green economy.

What’s Next: We’re now developing a set of solutions to support BIPOC entrepreneurs so they can continue to grow their businesses in clean energy.

COMING THIS MONTH

  1. We’ll be kicking off our Green Dialogues on Instagram Live, a three-part series exploring the green economy and topics in sustainability with our partners at ECOS and some special guests. Sign up to get text reminders here!
  2. Our Common Ground Listening Tour also kicked off this month. We’re bringing together key stakeholders from both sides of the aisle to discuss common ground climate solutions that prioritize low-income communities.
  3. Lastly, we’re gearing up for a big push this summer to ensure that Biden’s upcoming Build Back Better infrastructure package prioritizes investments towards communities hit first and worst by pollution and poverty. Stay tuned for ways to get involved!

Together, we can win an economic recovery that will help communities build back stronger, healthier, and better equipped to fight the climate crisis. We’re so glad to have you with us in this fight!
