Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is a former public defender, an unflinching champion for justice, and Joe Biden's nominee to the second highest court in the United States. We love her, and you should, too. Here’s why:
This week, President Biden nominated Ketanji Brown Jackson, a former public defender, to fill Merrick Garland’s seat on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, often called the second highest court in the country. If Biden has the chance to follow through on his promise to nominate a Black woman Supreme Court justice she would also be a strong contender for that job.
Ketanji Brown Jackson is exactly the kind of judge we need to rebalance a court system tilted in favor of the rich and the powerful. As a former public defender and vice chair of the Sentencing Commission, she’s seen our broken criminal justice system up close and fought for real justice.
And there’s no question she’s brilliant and qualified. She’s already been unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate twice.
Now more than ever, we need to confirm more public defenders and lawyers with her experience fighting for justice to the bench. And, John, we need you with us. We’ve seen the kind of bad faith attacks Republicans come up with when a woman of color who has championed justice gets nominated to a key job. We have to be ready.
