“THINGS WE CARRY ON THE SEA” BY WANG PING

We carry tears in our eyes: good-bye father, good-bye mother

We carry soil in small bags: may home never fade in our hearts

We carry names, stories, memories of our villages, fields, boats

We carry scars from proxy wars of greed

We carry carnage of mining, droughts, floods, genocides

We carry dust of our families and neighbors incinerated in mushroom clouds

We carry our islands sinking under the sea

We carry our hands, feet, bones, hearts and best minds for a new life

We carry diplomas: medicine, engineer, nurse, education, math, poetry, even if they mean nothing to the other shore

We carry railroads, plantations, laundromats, bodegas, taco trucks, farms, factories, nursing homes, hospitals, schools, temples…built on our ancestors’ backs

We carry old homes along the spine, new dreams in our chests

We carry yesterday, today and tomorrow

We’re orphans of the wars forced upon us

We’re refugees of the sea rising from industrial wastes

And we carry our mother tongues
爱(ai),حب  (hubb), ליבע (libe), amor, love

平安 (ping’an), سلام ( salaam), shalom, paz, peace

希望(xi’wang), أمل (’amal), hofenung, esperanza, hope, hope, hope

As we drift…in our rubber boats…from shore…to shore…to shore…

Events

CARAVAN OF LOVE: Thank you to all of our amazing volunteers who brought so many necessities to the migrant shelters in Tijuana. Such a great group of individuals from so many different places of the US committed to doing their part. We were able to provide everything from food, to socks, to blankets knit full of love!

There are currently about 32 migrant shelters in Tijuana from where we help about 16 so far. These shelters are volunteer and migrant run so absolutely any and all help counts! Special shoutout to our fearless leader Hugo Castro and the inauguration of the newest shelter,
The Bridge/ El Puente!

So how can you help? Join our next Caravan, they happen bi-monthly on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month. Can’t make it? Send us donations to our office in San Diego and our Caravans will drive them over! For signups, info, or donations please contact: [email protected]

LemonAID Stand🍋
We received a very special donation in the mail this week from two young boys in Colorado. They set up a lemonade stand to help end family separation and sent postcards with beautiful messages filled with love. Thank you so much for being kind and setting an example not just for the youth but for everyone. You give all of us so much hope!

Fundraisers

The Mobile School Project

The Mobile School project was born from the collaboration between two humanitarian aid organizations Border Angels and The Schoolbox Project. As you may know, Border Angels sponsors ~15 shelters in Tijuana, MX serving migrant families who often spend many months waiting for asylum hearings and next steps. The shelters house hundreds of children, many of whom have spent months, if not years outside of the school system - if they were able to attend in their home countries at all.
