We’re in the most consequential legislative fight in our movement’s history.

John,

We’re in the most consequential legislative fight in our movement’s history. On Wednesday, Joe Biden proposed trillions of dollars in spending to help recover the economy and stop the climate crisis. Without a doubt it's historic, and a testament to the power our movement has built over the past few years. And it's still not enough. Our movement must hold two truths at once: Biden’s plan doesn’t meet the scale and urgency of the climate crisis AND we must pass the most ambitious version of this plan immediately.

This is our best shot at winning the first pillar of the Green New Deal. It's up to us to ensure that this proposal becomes law and is the first of many pieces of legislation that will address the crises facing our generation. We must turn up the heat and force Biden and Congress to pass this historic legislation. We can't let Biden off the hook, we can't let moderate Democrats water it down and we can't let Republicans stop it altogether.

We need every Member of Congress — Democrat or Republican — to feel the pressure. That’s why next Wednesday April 7th, while Congress is home for recess, we’re holding rallies and demonstrations to demand Congress act with the urgency this moment demands.

If you’re reading this, I probably don’t need to tell you how devastating congressional inaction would be. People would continue to suffer, our window to address the climate crisis would get smaller, and we could miss our opportunity to make the government work for us. We have to be the loudest voices in our representatives’ heads when they head back to DC and begin negotiations on Biden’s plan. Join us on Wednesday, April 7th to turn up the heat and tell Biden and Congress that we NEED Good Jobs for All to confront the many crises we face.

Whether you’ve never been to a protest or have been to more than you can count, whether you’re 17 or 71 — take action on Wednesday and join me in this critical and historic fight. Years from now, I hope we look back on this moment as a time when movements got in the streets and forced politicians to make our agenda the law of the land. This is our shot to win real policies that will change the course of American history forever.

P.S. We wouldn’t be asking you to take action during a pandemic unless it was important and that actions were being planned in a safe way. We’re making sure action leads have everything they need to make next week as safe as possible and follow social distancing guidelines. But if you don’t feel safe taking action in person, you can also join our Digital Day of Action. At our Digital Day of Action we’ll connect with likeminded people from across the country and send mock Green New Deal job resumes to our Congresspeople to make sure they know we are ready for a jobs guarantee!
