Last week, the country bore witness to a horrific incident of gun violence at a King Soopers grocery store in Boulder, Colorado -- and it was just one of seven mass shootings in the US last week.
The number of mass shootings, injuries, and deaths our country has suffered is unacceptable -- and the only way to ensure that this never happens again is through comprehensive legislation. I was excited to vote for the two background check bills that passed the House just last month -- but they'll each need 60 votes to surpass the inevitable GOP filibuster in the Senate and onto President Biden's desk.
Expanding background checks is a crucial step in our ever-urgent fight against the growing gun violence epidemic in our country, and I'm proud to have signed on to this much-needed change for our country.
Unfortunately, Republicans in the Senate aren't going to make any kind of gun reform easy for us. It's shaping up to be a rematch of our 2019 fight to push the Bipartisan Background Checks Act through to the Senate -- legislation that Mitch McConnell stopped when he refused to even bring it to the Senate floor for a procedural vote.
That's why I need your input today as we gear up for more fights against gun violence:
Do you think we need increased background checks for gun purchases?

Thank you so much -- I truly value your input.
