New podcasts feature mental health professionals on the effects of fascism on people; Andy Zee discusses the relationship between fascism & capitalism-imperialism
Friend,
The Refuse Fascism podcast,
featuring commentary on the latest events and interviews with scholars
and activists from many different perspectives, is an essential tool for
understanding and uniting to stop an American fascist movement that imperils all of humanity.
Episode 52: The Trauma of Trumpism. Maria Sanchez, a mental health professional and supporter of
RefuseFascism.org, talks to Sam Goldman about the trauma of the Trump
presidency and the enduring fascist movement on society.
We air clips from a previous conversation between Sam and forensic psychiatrist Dr. Bandy Lee
(editor of “The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump”). Since that interview was aired, Dr. Lee was criticized by former Trump lawyer Alan Dershowitz for raising questions on Trump's mental health, and then fired from her teaching position at Yale. Read her latest article: How a Psychiatric Association Sickened Society’s Mental Health.
Andy Zee: "The statement itself provides an orientation for the whole political situation that we face going forward and it gets deeply into what gave rise to this fascism. That’s really a decisive question. We’ve just been through four years of a fascist regime in power attempting to consolidate a fascist rule in this country, a different form of governing and rule within the same confines of the system itself, which is, as you pointed out is the capitalist- imperialist system. At the very beginning of the statement, Bob Avakian points out that as sharp as this divide is between the Republicans, or often in Refuse Fascism, we call them the republi-fascists, and the Democratic Party, which represents the ruling capitalist-imperialist consensus over a whole period of time is a contention at the top of society how to best administer an empire and a system that depends on the exploitation of people here and around the world. And that that actually isn’t the fundamental divide....The fundamental division, the fundamental problem, that the masses of people here and around the world face, the fundamental problem is this system itself, which continually will regenerate fascist movements, and at times fascism coming to power in different countries around the world, which has been a phenomenon in the last period."
