#ReSealTheDeal Week of Action
This week, NIAC worked with dozens of pro-diplomacy organizations across the country to push the Biden administration to rejoin the Iran nuclear deal. In the last four days alone, 16,000 people have signed our joint petition to Biden urging him to rejoin the deal, we coordinated a hugely successful #ReSealTheDeal tweetstorm, hosted a phenomenal panel that featured special remarks from pro-diplomacy champions Sen. Chris Murphy and Rep. Ro Khanna, so much more.
But our #ReSealtheDeal Week of Action isnât over just yet! Thereâs still time to join on to our petition and add your voices to the thousands of others who are ready to repave the path to diplomacy with Iran. This is our time to act.

đ¨Â Endorsement Alert đ¨
We are excited to introduce you to NIAC Actionâs newest endorsed candidate: Aida Ashouri!
Aida, an Iranian-American woman and first-time candidate, is no stranger to serving her community. Sheâs spent a lifetime volunteering to support those in need, especially those without the resources to advocate for themselves. Aida drafted legislation to reform asylum laws and increase protections for migrants in the US before attending law school at UC Berkeley.
After graduating, Aida served in the Office for Immigration Review through the U.S. Department of Justice, and played a pivotal role in creating the ordinance that prohibits establishing a religious registry. Aida is the exact type of leader we need in office right now!

 Spotlighting Human Rights in IranÂ

Though the Biden administration announced soon after taking office that they would review these sanctions for the purposes of humanitarian assistance in a global crisis, no such relief has been granted and all Trump era sanctions remain in place on Iran. As such, a group of civil society organizationsâincluding human rights, faith-based, advocacy and other groupsâsent a letter to President Biden last week urging him to take swift action on sanctions relief.

Last week, NIAC hosted a very special conversation with policymakers, Internet freedom advocates, and tech industry leaders to discuss the policies and actions the Biden administration and the tech industry could take to ensure the U.S. did not aid in the silencing Iranian voices.
Make sure to check out the recording of the panel to hear special remarks from Rep. Ro Khanna and insights from Mahsa Alimardani of ARTICLE19, Peter Micek of Access Now, Mike Linksvayer from GitHub, and Amir Rashidi from the Miaan Group.

Biden can end 'forever wars' only if he scraps Trump policies and pursues peace with Iran
Sina Toossi and Yasmine Taeb for USA Today
âIf Biden gives into hawks from both parties who want to escalate with Iran, his domestic agenda will be derailed and grave implications will be felt for the rest of his presidency, and beyond.â Read more >
US-Iran Relations After Trump: The Path to Peace is Open
Assal Rad for Turkish Policy Quarterly
In contemporary American politics, the idea of ending endless wars has become a ubiquitous catchphrase employed by both Republicans and Democrats...It is within this context that we must understand the international efforts and the desire of the former Obama administration to broker a peaceful deal with Iran that addressed concerns over their nuclear program and avoided another costly and destabilizing war in the Middle East. Read more >
Iran Unfiltered: Iran & China Sign Roadmap for Strategic Cooperation
Foreign Minister Zarif and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi signed a roadmap for âcomprehensive cooperationâ between Iran and China for the next 25 years. The accord was signed in Tehran and has spurred a wave of criticism and support.
Iranian critics of the accord claim it will turn Iran into a client state of China. They have compared it to the Turkmenchay Treaty, which saw Iran cede territory to Russia in the early 19th century.
