At 2 AM in the morning last night, the Texas Senate advanced one of the most extreme and anti-democratic voter suppression bills in our state’s history.

Republicans are trying to ram through a bill which drastically cuts early voting, vote-by-mail, and allows poll watchers to record voters seeking assistance casting a ballot. Last week, Georgia-based Delta Airlines stepped up to oppose a similar bill -- but they were too late. Across the country, Republicans are fast-tracking bills to restrict voting and suppress voters of color. Right now, 43 states are debating at least 200 different voter suppression bills.

This bill, S.B. 7, is a modern Jim Crow attempt at voter suppression that would drastically reduce early voting, restrict vote-by-mail, end drive-thru voting, and would allow Republican poll watchers to record and intimidate voters seeking assistance in filling out their ballot. Imagine one of your grandparents being recorded on video when they ask for assistance casting their ballots. That's what this bill does -- it's voter intimidation, plain and simple.

This is a Republican power grab attempting to disenfranchise working families, voters with disabilities, and Texans of color. In 2020 we saw record turnout in our state. Now Republicans are doing everything in their power to limit the amount of Texans casting ballots.

Let’s be clear: this bill is racist, anti-democratic, and it MUST be stopped. Georgia-based Delta Airlines spoke out against a similar voter suppression bill last week -- but it was too little, too late. We need companies who call our state home, such as American Airlines and Southwest Airlines, to step up RIGHT NOW before this bill becomes law.
