Value our Families Storytelling Campaign: Stuck in the Backlog of Family Immigration
OCA National is collaborating with Value our Families—a network of local and national community-based and advocacy organizations that reject attacks and proposed harmful changes to our current family-based immigration system—to collect stories of individuals #StuckintheBacklog to expose how due to bureaucracy and institutional bigotry families are systematically separated for sometimes decades at a time.
Our goal with this storytelling campaign is to uplift stories of families stuck in the backlog and fighting to be reunited with their loved ones. We want to shift the public narrative from anti-immigrant rhetoric that criminalizes the act of migration, to centering their humanity, dignity and placing families first.
As such, we are identifying stories of individuals directly impacted by the immigration backlog and or family members impacted in the following ways.
- Stuck in the visa backlog or waiting on a family-sponsored visa
- Lost legal status or became undocumented due to the Visa backlog
- Essential worker in the US on Family Visa, and is (or has) sponsored family members
We need your help in collecting 1-2 stories of individuals impacted by the Family Immigration System.

OCA & 1822 Foundation: AAPI Curriculum in Classrooms
OCA National and 1882 foundation are collaborating on an initiative to get AAPI history into K-12 classrooms nationwide – and we need your help. Currently, we are in the beginning stages of researching and developing curriculum ideas and want to ensure that the curriculum is inclusive and equitable in its treatment of AAPI history, and reflective of the cultural diversity found in the AAPI a community. We are seeking resources that include innovative approaches to learning and welcome contributions that bring to light historical events that have impacted the AAPI community. We also encourage ideas that promote project-based learning and creative approaches to teaching.
If you have ideas, resources, or questions, or would like to be an active participant in the project, please contact Senior Policy & Advocacy Associate, Michael Nguyen at
