# [#] John, last week I came to you with a serious mission: raise $20,000 before the end of the quarter to ensure that our first Federal Election Commission (FEC) finance report of the year would prove our strength.
My friend, grassroots activists like you delivered — and then some. We’re in a great position headed into 2022 now, and I’m so thankful for everyone who helped us get to where we needed to be.
But the fight isn’t over now, John. We’ve got work to do right now — work that can’t wait until 2022: it’s time to tackle common sense gun reform.
In recent weeks we’ve been reminded once again of how dangerous our current gun laws are. Loopholes, poor regulation, and extremism have made it all too easy for violent criminals in Atlanta and Boulder to target innocent lives. And vulnerable groups like the AAPI community—who have already suffered so much in this pandemic—are paying the price.
The House has already passed legislation that would overhaul background checks and make it harder for bad guys to get guns — now it’s the Senate’s turn. Will you join me in calling on the Senate to do its job and pass this pivotal reform legislation? [[link removed]]

This isn’t about me. This isn’t about some fundraising deadline or some election opponent. This is about our lives, our future, and our kids. I can’t bear to sit idly by as more people die preventable deaths.
We know for a fact that expanded background checks will save lives — heck, it’s called the “Charleston loophole” because we can name the specific massacres that would have been avoided by strengthening our regulations.
So it’s time for our leaders to stop treating this issue like some abstract concept that doesn’t directly impact people — the House has done its part, now it’s the Senate’s turn.
