Senate Committee advances measures that expand options and opportunities for Wisconsinites
------------------------------------------------------------
Today the State Senate Committee on Insurance, Licensing and Forestry voted 4-0 to pass SB 181 ([link removed]) , legislation that would allow for dental therapists to be licensed and practice in Wisconsin. This is an important step toward addressing Wisconsin’s dental access problem, one that is pervasive among the state’s underserved populations.
“Dental therapy is a free-market solution that would help address our statewide shortage of dental care providers,” said Badger Institute Policy Analyst Julie Grace. “We’ve written and researched extensively on this policy, and the consensus is clear: dental therapy works.”
The bill now awaits a hearing in the Assembly and a vote before the full Senate.
The Badger Institute also submitted testimony ([link removed]) for the committee’s hearing on a bill ([link removed]) that would clarify that Wisconsin residents do not need to obtain a barber or cosmetology license to perform natural hair braiding. That bill already passed the State Assembly with bipartisan support.
