This Thursday October 3rd at 11am, we’re hosting a conversation on Twitter along with the whole #DontTrashNYC coalition about transforming the private trash hauling industry here in New York City with a bill that’s before City Council right now.
Follow the #DontTrashNYC hashtag to join the conversation and tell New York City Council Members to support the bill. Tweet us questions or stories @DontTrashNYC and we’ll plug you into the conversation.
Right now, NYC’s private trash hauling companies have been involved in more than 67 crashes in the last two years, and just last month alone, 3 people have been killed by private sanitation trucks. Many NYC private sanitation workers log dangerous 14-18 hour overnight shifts. And only 24% of the trash they pick up is ever recycled or composted, which dramatically increases climate emissions.
And that’s just a few of the problems with this industry.
Want to know more? Join us at 11am on Thursday, October 3rd as we have a conversation about the impact of private trash hauling on our local communities and its global climate impact. We’ll be sharing statistics, answering questions, and taking action during the town hall to tell our City Council Members to pass Intro 1574.
