Report Identifies Ways to Integrate Social, Health Care
How can services that address social needs—stable housing, reliable transportation, and nutritious food—become a part of clinical care? Integrating Social Care into the Delivery of Health Care: Moving Upstream to Improve the Nation’s Health, a report from the National Academy of Medicine, examines approaches, with the goal of achieving better health outcomes.

Webinars Show How Nursing Schools, Communities Partner
For two years, 16 schools of nursing have partnered with community-based organizations to deliver new models of care to benefit the community, as well as the students. Results of the successful partnerships will be featured in “Lessons Learned,” nearly a dozen webinars starting October 8 and continuing through spring 2020. The Campaign encourages all Action Coalitions to register for the series.

Nurses “Weighed Their Decisions,” Then Joined Climate Rallies
Outside of students and scientists, health-care workers—specifically, nurses—were anticipated to have the strongest presence at nationwide protests seeking action on climate change. That’s what rally organizers told the Washington Post before the delegations of nurses participated last week. Nurses “are incredibly credible voices that span all political spectrums,” said one organizer.

AANP Seeks Nominations for Its 2020 State Awards
The American Association of Nurse Practitioners is accepting nominations for its two annual honors: The NP State Award for Excellence, awarded to outstanding nurse practitioners; and the Advocate State Award for Excellence, awarded to non-NPs who contribute toward increasing awareness and recognition of NPs. Deadline: October 14.

Sigma Foundation, Jonas Philanthropies Launch Research Grant
A new fund, the Sigma Foundation for Nursing/Jonas Philanthropies collaborative research grant, is designed to support nursing research that will help improve health care for the most vulnerable citizens of the U.S. Grants are available in three categories: mental health, rural health, and veterans health care. Nurses' Health Study Needs You! And Other Nurses
Over decades, the information provided by the Nurses' Health Study has led to much of what we know today about health and disease. The third such study, NHS3, now seeks 100,000 nurses and nursing students to get involved and so contribute much-needed data, including information to assist in addressing health disparities.

Nursing Education Perspectives will devote its fall 2020 issue to The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health report, 10 years after its publication.
