Tomorrow (April 2nd!) on National Out to Win Day, we're encouraging LGBTQ people to consider a run for office and make positive change for our community. We know that LGBTQ people, women, and people of color have to be asked more times before they decide to run. We want to be their first ask - and we want them to say yes!
National Out to Win Day is a day to celebrate the huge steps forward this community has made, and to honor those that have run before. 42 years ago on April 2nd, Kathy Kozachenko won her race for the Ann Arbor City Council, becoming the first openly LGBTQ person ever elected in the United States. Each year, we honor Kathy's historic victory and raise awareness about the importance of LGBTQ representation, while inspiring others to follow in her footsteps.
Don't forget to tune in on Victory Institute's social media at 1PM ET TOMORROW to hear a special message from U.S. Congressman Ritchie Torres and watch as Arizona state Representative Daniel Hernández Jr., Washington County (AR) Justice of the Peace Evelyn Rios Stafford and DC ANC Commissioner Rehana Mohammed discuss running for public office, dealing with attacks on the campaign trail and so much more! Set your reminder on Facebook or YouTube here!
Thanks for tuning in,
LGBTQ Victory Institute
