Republicans in Georgia are doing their best to drag us back to the time of Jim Crow.
Last week, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed a bill into law that further suppresses the vote in a state already ridden with hurdles for voters to jump through. Among other things, this bill makes it illegal to give voters waiting in line food or water.
In 2020, we saw record-breaking lines across Georgia, and we wouldn't have flipped the state without the thousands of voters willing to wait hours on end, and the volunteers who brought them food and water to make the line a little more bearable. The only goal of this new law is to disincentivize voters from going to the polls and braving the lines, and to make sure fewer voters turn out in 2022 to vote Brian Kemp out.
Friend, we can't allow this to be the new normal. Republicans think they can rig elections. We're not going to let them get away with it.
We're working around the clock to back strong progressive candidates who are running against the Republicans behind these archaic laws sweeping the nation -- and to make sure they can overcome voter suppression hurdles and win. But Republicans are doubling down on their efforts, and we need to do the same.
