Dear John,

As we look ahead to a New York City with higher vaccination rates, one of our first priorities must be reopening schools safely, supportively, and more justly.

And when students come back to the classroom -- we must greet them with the resources they need to heal and learn after this hard year.

Join me and health and education experts for a conversation about what our schools need for a safe and supportive return. [[link removed]]

More than 25,000 students have opted to come back to classrooms in the last week, but 20% of school buildings are closed on a daily basis because of the 2-case threshold. Vaccination is moving forward apace at last, but COVID cases are also extremely high as too many of us let our guards down.

We urgently need to tackle the hard issues on school reopening -- to help teachers, students, families, and communities feel safe and supported, and create a nurturing learning environment for our students for years to come.

RSVP to join us TONIGHT for this important conversation. [[link removed]] We'll be joined by epidemiologist Dr. Celine Gounder, educators Shael Polakow-Suransky and José Luis Vilson, and integration activist and student Emma Rehac.

We'll talk about what's needed for students, teachers, staff, and families to feel safe, to get the support they need to thrive, and to build a more just and nourishing school system for all of our kids out of this pandemic.

Brad

P.S. Thank you to those of you who signed our petition to the Mayor to replace the arbitrary 2-case threshold with a test-and-trace approach that keeps healthy classrooms open and invests in more testing for a safe return to school. Over 1,500 people have signed and the momentum for this change continues to grow. Please sign and share if you haven't already. [[link removed]]
