🕵️ How to detect student loan repayment scams.
Generation Progress

Hey John,

Yes, we know. It's April Fools' Day (watch out). But this info is no joke.

ICYMI: the COVID-19 emergency student loan payment pause has been extended through September 30, 2021. However, as the end of this suspension looks like it's drawing nearer, we anticipate a rise in scam student loan servicer calls and emails.

So we’re partnering with The Institute for Student Loan Advice (TISLA) for their #DontBeFooled day of action today, April 1!

Here are some resources to help you avoid the scammers:

  • Nonprofit TISLA provides FREE personal student loan advice.
  • Always get student loan info/updates from StudentAid.gov ("dot gov" sites are a good thing to look for here).
  • NEVER pay for student loan advice or pay for access to loan cancellation programs.
  • NEVER give out your social security number or credit card/bank information over the phone, via email, or on any website that’s not StudentAid.gov.
  • Find more tips on how to identify a student loan scam.

And here are some ways you can join us in taking action to spread awareness and save other borrowers from these scam servicers and "help centers:"
