tl;dr Donate to keep Casa Ruby running and providing resources for trans youth of color in DC [[link removed]] .
It’s Trans Day of Visibility and the trans community in DC needs your help. Over the past few months, we’ve been doing mutual aid work around the city, building connections and putting down roots in the community, including working with Casa Ruby [[link removed]] . Casa Ruby is the only LGBTQ, bilingual and multicultural organization in the District that provides social services and programming catering to queer, trans people of color. We’re sending out an email blast because right now, Casa Ruby needs the support [[link removed]] of the full force of the DC community, support from everyone who wants to help build a livable future for DC.
Casa Ruby has recently been under threat of losing their space by Joe Amatangelo, a typical corrupt DC landlord — refusing to repair electrical work, raising the rent to force them out, and hiding language in the lease that removes power from tenants. This space has provided housing, cooking, mail storage, a refuge and a HOME for hundreds of LGBTQ youth of color in DC who in many cases have nowhere else to turn in this gentrified city.
While they are at risk of being forced out of this space, Ruby has set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds to move to a new location so that Casa Ruby can continue operating.
Donate here [[link removed]] . Send $2 if you’re tight on rent. If you have wealth, send your full stimulus if you haven’t redistributed it yet.
It's our responsibility to build and sustain the future of DC that we want to live in.
