This is one of the most important emails I’ve ever sent you. And it’s
about one of the single most important people in our movement.

The Real Justice team is launching a brand new campaign today, and it’s
about something I never saw coming.

Let me explain.

In 2019, voters elected Chesa Boudin as San Francisco’s District Attorney.

I poured my heart into that race — we all did. For good reason. He is one
of the single most compassionate, intelligent, brilliant, competent people
I know. And electing him as DA of San Francisco is literally one of the
most important victories of our lives.

On the day he took office, he stood before us and promised to use the
power of his office to fight for a more fair, effective, and accountable
justice system.

In just over one year, he has:

* Helped reduce the jail population by nearly 50% in the first three
months of his term.
* Ended prosecutors’ requests for cash bail — a draconian system that
undermines public safety and punishes poverty.
* Eliminated the use of racist gang enhancements that target Black
people for guilt by association.
* Dramatically increased police accountability, like filing HISTORIC
charges against police officers for brutalizing and killing Black
people.

And in spite of the pandemic stressing San Francisco, violent crime is
still down to historic lows. Honestly, we’re just barely scratching the
surface of what Chesa can do as DA.

And that’s why the new attacks he is facing are truly unprecedented.

Republicans, the police union, and the ultra-wealthy are banding together
to try to overturn the results of the election and RECALL Chesa Boudin.
Most of them don’t even live in San Francisco.

They’re FURIOUS that someone is finally trying to hold horrible police and
prosecutors accountable. And TERRIFIED that our nationwide movement is
doing the same exact thing in cities all across the country.

Despite historic obstacles and a global pandemic, Chesa has kept his
promises.

He dramatically reduced the jail population to protect people living
inside jails and the broader community from COVID-19 outbreaks.

He consistently fights for more support for victims of crime, including
financial help and housing for domestic violence survivors.

He holds those who abuse power accountable, including prosecuting San
Francisco police officer Christopher Samayoa for killing an unarmed Black
man.

Make no mistake: this effort to overturn an election is Republican-led,
and fueled by fear-mongering and dangerous misinformation. And we’re going
to need to throw down hard to combat it.
