Dear John,

Well over half of Jewish Americans have either experienced or directly witnessed some form of antisemitism in the last five years. The new ADL report on Jewish American Experiences with Antisemitism found that 63 percent of Jewish Americans have either experienced or heard antisemitic comments, slurs or threats targeting others during that time frame, an increase from 54 percent a year earlier.

This finding is alarming, as is the fact that nine percent of Jewish Americans indicated in the survey that they had been physically attacked in the last five years because they are Jewish, and that 49 percent of Jewish Americans are afraid of a violent attack at a synagogue.

Jewish American Experiences with Antisemitism

These findings are a stark reminder that the corrosive continuum of antisemitism that you see online, in our communities and in deadly attacks in Pittsburgh, Poway, Jersey City and Monsey must be addressed not just by the Jewish community alone, but by the whole of society.

TAKING ACTION

To that end, ADL recently unveiled its PROTECT and REPAIR plans, which provide pathways forward for the federal government and corporate leaders to tackle the broader problem of domestic extremism as well as the issue of antisemitism and other forms of hate spreading on social media, which the REPAIR Plan is specifically designed to address.

When antisemitism happens, ADL is there on the ground providing expertise, resources and other assistance. If you experience or witness an antisemitic incident, please report it to ADL here. ADL is expanding our partnership with the Secure Communities Network to monitor threats to the Jewish community and provide timely information directly to the community and to law enforcement to disrupt potential attacks.

We are also a leading provider in the U.S. of anti-bias education to prevent antisemitism before it happens.

Antisemitism has no place in our communities. We ask you to read the new ADL report on Jewish American Experiences with Antisemitism so you can stay informed about this threat, and so you can speak out against it alongside ADL.
