Team, this is exactly why governors are so important – just take a look at my state, New Mexico:

The State Legislature recently passed a bill repealing a decades-old statute criminalizing abortion, and I was so proud to sign it into law. It's a simple bill, but it's one that sends a profound message that a woman should always have autonomy over her body.

But imagine if I wasn't governor. Imagine if a GOP extremist sat in my seat. Abortion would still be criminalized by New Mexico law, and countless women could pay the price. 

In states all over the country, people don't have to imagine it. From Florida to Arizona, GOP governors are doing everything in their power to control extremely personal medical decisions – decisions that should only ever be between a woman and her doctor.

With Republicans using Jim Crow-era tactics to threaten progress in Washington and a conservative majority on the Supreme Court, governors are the last line of defense against the GOP's dangerous agenda. And with 38 governorships up for grabs in the next two years – including my own – ensuring Democrats win key battleground races couldn't be more important. But we've already fallen behind the GOP's mega-donor network.

That's why I'm writing to you today. The DGA is working around the clock to make sure we elect as many Democratic governors as possible to protect our most critical rights, and every dollar you give before tonight's end-of-quarter deadline will be tripled by a generous group of donors up to our $100,000 goal.
