In a few moments, I'm going to ask you to make a contribution toward our mandatory FEC end-of-quarter deadline. But before I do, I wanted to explain why your support is so powerfully important in our fight for progress on an issue that's deeply personal to me.
Today is the International Transgender Day of Visibility — a day dedicated to celebrating transgender and gender-nonconforming people while shining a light on the urgent and necessary work that remains to achieve trans justice.
I'm the proud mom of a trans kid, and I know how beautiful it is when trans and non-binary people are able to live freely as themselves and free from discrimination.
But as I write this email, trans rights are under an unprecedented assault. Since the start of the year, nearly 100 anti-trans bills have been introduced all across the country. Many of them limit medical care, and four bills have already been signed into law.
These attacks underscore the urgency of protecting LGBTQIA+ Americans at the federal level from discrimination not only in the workplace but in housing, other public accommodations, health care, and education. That's why I helped re-introduce the Equality Act and pass it in the House last month.
The Equality Act now faces an uncertain future in the Senate where we're still grappling with a racist and outdated filibuster that stands in the way of progress not only on this bill, but also voting rights, the American Dream and Promise Act, and common-sense gun safety legislation.
Despite the obstacles that stand in our way right now, I'm deeply hopeful and inspired to fight harder than ever before. With a Democratic White House, Senate, and House, progress is within our reach. That's why it's so important that this people-first movement continues building our power to affect real change on the issues we're all fighting so hard for. So I have to ask:
Can you chip in $3 or more toward our FEC end-of-quarter deadline goal so our movement has the resources to keep pushing for the passage of the Equality Act and other transformative legislation? We need to raise an additional $30,000 by midnight tonight, and as of right now, we're still roughly $10,202 short.
To every transgender person: I hear you, I see you, and I will never stop fighting for you.
In solidarity,
Pramila
