Even before the COVID-19 crisis began, Iowa was in need of bold and comprehensive investments to improve our infrastructure – but continuing economic turmoil is all the more reason to secure robust federal investments to repair crumbling bridges and roads, create jobs, expand opportunity and access to critical services, and kickstart economic recovery.

My colleagues and I in the House are beginning discussions about what an infrastructure package should look like – and I want to hear from you what priorities you’d like to see included to help Iowa’s communities and local economies.

What should an infrastructure bill focus on? (Pick up to three)

Repairing broken roads, bridges, tunnels

Expanding access to broadband connectivity

Investing in energy modernization and renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and biofuels

Building additional affordable housing and preserving existing housing options

Supporting local hospitals and expanding care capacity

Weatherizing communities against natural disasters and other climate-related damage

Protecting access to safe drinking water

Updating school infrastructure, including upgrading ventilation and HVAC systems

Reinforcing working families through investments in child care facilities
