John,
It's truly disappointing and infuriating to see how afraid some Republican politicians have become of the voters. After Democrats won the 2020 election, aided by historic turnout in Black communities, some in the GOP decided that the problem isn't their party's embrace of backwards policies or a seditious former president, but rather that too many people voted.
And so state lawmakers have already introduced more than 250 bills this year that would make it harder for people -- disproportionately people of color -- to vote. This includes bills like the one signed in Georgia last week that restricts vote-by-mail, eliminates ballot drop boxes, and even prohibits volunteers from offering food and water to people waiting in long lines to vote.
We haven’t seen a coordinated attack on voting rights like this since the days of Jim Crow. And I can't stress this enough: It must be stopped . I'm going to tell you about the NDRC's plan to stop Republican voter suppression efforts and restore democracy -- but first, I'm going to ask you to contribute to our end-of-quarter goal before tonight's midnight deadline.

The first thing we can do to stop these state-level attacks on voting rights is to guarantee basic voting protections at the federal level. That's why we are strongly advocating for the passage of the For the People Act -- the House of Representatives passed this package of democracy reforms this month and the Senate just held its first hearing on the bill.
The For the People Act would prohibit many forms of voter suppression and expand voting access. Importantly for the NDRC's mission, the legislation would also ban partisan gerrymandering of congressional districts and establish independent redistricting commissions in every state, which would go a long way toward making the House more representative of America.
Passing the For the People Act should be the Senate's top priority. It’s why I testified in front of the Senate Rules Committee last week to stress the importance of this bill. But that's not going to be enough. I need you with me to make sure that everyone's vote counts equally by preventing another round of Republican gerrymandering.
I know with your support -- and if we hit our end-of-quarter goal -- we can do the work and make this country a place where all voices are heard. John, will you make a donation before midnight tonight?
