This morning an influential group of MPs released new report agreeing with one of our key campaign demands, financial support is needed for renters to help deal with debts that have built up in the crisis.  

Half a million people are behind on their rent because of the pandemic. And so far, the government has failed to act.  

The group of MPs, who scrutinise what the government is doing on housing said: “We call on the Government to deliver a specific financial package...to support tenants to repay rent arrears caused by covid-19" 

This is great news, it’s the first time an influential group of politicians has acknowledged debts must be written off because of the pandemic.  

But what they are asking for doesn’t go far enough. People are facing all sorts of debts. At least 7 million adults have fallen behind with at least one household bill, including one in five keyworkers. More must be done.  

It’s not too late to add your name to our petition calling for debts to be written off.

It’s great that this report has been published but we need to amplify the message and make sure the government knows that we want them to action on the recommendations and help people with their debts.  

The more of us join the campaign the more we are likely to make get them to act.
