Autism Speaks

Dear John,

Congress is currently considering funding requests for their 2022 Fiscal Year appropriations bills. By voicing your support for increasing the federal investment in autism research, your advocacy can help more people on the spectrum receive the services they need to thrive.

Federal funding and support have led to significant progress for people with autism and their families. We now have a better understanding of the biology of autism, the numbers of individuals across the country with an autism spectrum disorder diagnosis, and the types of interventions, services and supports that can benefit the autism community.

This important knowledge and more was brought to us by autism research – and in many ways, it is because of this progress that we know that much more needs to be done to address the significant challenges that exist for individuals across the autism spectrum and throughout the life span. It is estimated that combined autism research funding among federal and private sources is less than 1% of the estimated annual total cost of autism. Additional investments can help reduce those costs and pursue opportunities to help people with autism reach their full potential for education, work and quality of life.

Join us in asking Congress to increase the federal investment in autism research and build on the investments it has already made to improve the daily lives of autistic individuals and their families.

Thank you,
David Sitcovsky
Senior Director of Public Policy & Federal Government Affairs
