The April recess is about to kick off, and right now, swing state senators are facing serious pressure from the oil industry over three environmental initiatives: The move to temporarily halt all new oil and gas leases on public lands. The oil industry has been going ballistic over this since Biden ordered it in January. The 30-by-30 conservation plan, which will double the amount of protected lands (to 30%) in the country by the end of this decade. The infrastructure bill ? leaks are indicating that the plan could be as big as $3 trillion to modernize our energy, transportation, and water infrastructure while combating environmental racism and creating good, union jobs. The truth is, what the environmental movement does during the recess matters. A lot. These fights could be the most consequential environmental initiatives in decades, but getting them over the finish line is going to take grassroots support.

During the recess, we're hoping to organize virtual events, meetings connecting environmental activists with their lawmakers, and targeted advertising campaigns to pressure these lawmakers.

The environmental movement has to show up BIG during the recess if we're going to have any shot here. Since Biden announced these plans, the oil and gas industry has ramped up pressure campaigns targeting swing state senators.

They've been effective. Lawmakers repeating Big Oil's talking points on the record. Paid ads spreading these mistruths on social media. Astro-turf organizations designed to make it look like people want more drilling in their states.

This can't go unanswered. And the April recess is the time to fight back.
