Hi,

Today, Texas Republicans' latest voter suppression effort -- Senate Bill 7 -- goes to the full Texas Senate for a vote.

Whether or not it passes, this bill is a stain on Texas. SB7 is one of the worst voter suppression efforts our state has seen since the Jim Crow era. This bill would:

- require voters with disabilities to show a doctor's note to get a mail ballot,
- limit early voting hours,
- let poll watchers video record voters,
- criminalize our poll workers, and more.

This is a blatant assault on the voting rights of Black and Latino Texans, and a targeted attack on voters with disabilities.

I'm outraged. But I'm not surprised. What Texas Republicans are doing falls right in line with what Republicans are doing around the country: trying to shut down the voices of Americans. This past week, Georgia passed voter suppression legislation so blatant it would be laughable if it weren't so tragic. And when the Georgia governor signed this bill into law, he had a portrait of a former plantation hanging behind him in the background.

You don't need to read between the lines to see who Republicans are targeting. The hate is there for all to see.

Texas Republicans are hellbent on cutting Texans off from their right to vote, and the reason is simple: they know that if every eligible voter has the chance to make their voice heard, we will vote them out.

They are trying to cling to power the only way they can, and right now, we have to throw all of our weight into stopping them. Will you chip in $7 or whatever you can to our Voter Protection Fund right now?

If Texas Republicans pass this heinous bill, Texans will know exactly who is trying to silence them -- and we will only get louder. No matter what barriers Republicans push through, we will crawl over broken glass to make our voices heard at the ballot box. We will not be silenced.

As President Biden said of the new Georgia law, "If you have the best ideas, you have nothing to hide...Let the people vote." We will never stop fighting for Texans' constitutional right to vote, because our vote is our voice. Join us today to defend it.
