As Treasurer, I launched the BankLocal program which has moved nearly $40 million of state cash deposits to local community banks and credit unions to support their small business lending. Research shows that small businesses are more likely to have loans approved by local community banking institutions, and BankLocal has already supported more than 350 small business loans since inception. We also recently launched a new system to make it easier for small businesses to be reunited with their “missing money” through the unclaimed property system. Our goal is to reunite over 1,000 small businesses with $1 million of unclaimed property in the coming weeks. If we keep working hard and investing in small businesses, we will see our economy recover and our communities and families thrive.
