It’s been how many days since the FEC’s been unable to do its job?

John,

The Federal Election Commission, the agency in charge of enforcing federal campaign finance law, needs to get back on the job now.

Our nation’s election watchdog has been effectively shut down for 30 days. Yes, we’re counting, and you can join us.

Issue One launched our FEC M.I.A website to shine a light on a key feature of our broken political system and keep an eye on how long our election laws are going unenforced.

When the FEC lost its quorum a month ago due to vice-chairman Matthew Peterson’s resignation, it also lost the ability to hold hearings, enforce existing rules or make new ones, fine violators, conduct audits, or vote on investigations. On top of that, the three remaining commissioners are all serving on long-expired terms.

The fact that the FEC is in shambles is nothing new - and its problems have largely been ignored by both Democrats and Republicans. Issue One has been calling attention to the dysfunctional election watchdog for years and is promoting solutions that would make it work.

America’s election laws need to be enforced. President Trump and Senate leaders need to do their jobs and nominate six new commissioners who are committed to enforcing the law so the agency can run properly.

The clock is ticking...
