Newspaper Guild hails WashPo reversal of ban on reporter writing about sexual assault
The Newspaper Guild yesterday hailed The Washington Post's reversal of a policy preventing a reporter from covering sexual misconduct issues because of what they originally said was a conflict of interest. "We're glad to see The Post reverse its harmful stance and allow our colleague Felicia Sonmez to do her job," the Guild tweeted. "But this decision came only after much public criticism and at the expense of Felicia's mental health. The Post must do better. The company still has much work to do to rebuild trust -- internally and externally -- and cultivate an inclusive workplace for all. The Post Guild will continue to push for a culture that views our workers' diverse experiences as a strength, not a limitation, and respects staff members' ability to do our jobs with fairness and professionalism." Reviewing the film Identifying Features (tonight's [link removed] DC Labor FilmFest screening at 7p) for RogerEbert.com; she says the film
"peels back that feel-good façade of the `coming to America' narrative for a much more painful reality, one that feels freshly steeped in tears, heartache, and headlines."
