Friends,
Last week, I traveled to the U.S. – Mexico border to see firsthand the immigration and humanitarian crisis currently facing our country. I also met with local officials and border patrol agents on the ground handling the surge.
Watch my video addressing the crisis here.
I was given a tour of the border by the National Border Patrol Council after attending a meeting with CBP agents ahead of their nightly patrol.
I learned that the cartels are exploiting the current crisis by using children to distract border agents while smugglers sneak across other areas carrying drugs.
I saw babies who had been handed over by smugglers.
I witnessed unaccompanied minors packed into an overcrowded room.
This has got to stop.
Watch my remarks briefing the media here.
From what I observed, it is clear that we are facing a crisis. Instead of denying reality and blocking media access so the American people can’t see the full extent of what is happening, the Biden Administration needs to start showing some leadership and accountability and stop pushing the narrative that this is humane policy.
There is nothing humane about more than 3,000 migrants being held in a facility that is only supposed to hold 250 people under COVID-19 protocols. There is nothing humane about children being handed over to human traffickers. But that’s what I saw at the border.
This crisis must be addressed. The conditions are inhumane and unacceptable, and I stand ready to work with the administration to secure our border and end this humanitarian and security crisis.
Thank you for reading, and as always, please reach out to my office if you have any questions or need help with a federal agency. God bless.
All the best,
