Hi John,

You may not have heard, but from tomorrow, more than one million people will be better off thanks to our Government’s changes to the minimum wage, main benefits and superannuation – changes which will have a real impact on the lives of families across our country.

And this is only possible because you made it possible for us to return to Government at the last election. So once again: thank you.

The changes coming in tomorrow (1 April) include:

  • The minimum wage rising to $20 an hour
  • A 3.1% increase to main benefits and superannuation
  • An increase to student allowances
  • The largest adjustment to abatement levels in two decades (this means people who receive a main benefit while working part time can keep more of what they earn).

Once the Winter Energy Payment begins again in May, families with children who receive a benefit will be, on average, $150 better off each week than when we came into Government in 2017.

This is good news for Kiwi families. It’s part of our plan to make meaningful change that sticks, and provide more support for low income families so they can build better futures.

However, we know there’s still a lot more to do to, and our MPs across the country are working hard, getting on with the job.

We’ll be in touch with more information soon, but in the meantime, we hope we can count on your ongoing support as we continue our work to improve the wellbeing of all New Zealanders and reduce child poverty.

Thank you,

Labour Campaigns Team
