Dear John, Right now, representatives in Congress are in their home states for spring recess (March 29 to April 11). And thanks to your efforts, we have built the power to create real change in our communities. Those living on the frontlines of our interconnected economic, social, democratic, and climate crises delivered a Democratic majority in the Senate this
year to get things done. We hold Congress accountable. Incremental policies that maintain or increase the existing sacrifice zones and further harm our communities are unacceptable. It’s about time for our communities to THRIVE.
Throughout recess, we are calling on Congress to adopt a recovery package that can address the country’s overlapping climate, racial justice, and economic crises and create millions of jobs in the process. This is the moment. “Marginalized Black,
Indigenous, Latina/o/x, Asian and Pacific Islander communities showed up in record numbers in 2018 and 2020 to elect a new Congress and President. Now it’s time to make sure that our government delivers a real recovery that recognizes the harsh reality our communities continue to face on the ground,” said Elizabeth Yeampierre, Co-Chair of Climate Justice Alliance and Executive Director of UPROSE Brooklyn.
“We’ve had enough excuses, enough delays.” From March 29th to April 10th, CJA member groups and our partners from Guam to New York City and everywhere in between, will hold dozens of events and creative actions in more than 14 states. Recovery Recess actions include virtual town halls and roundtables with members of Congress, marquee events like concerts, block parties and dance parties outside congressional offices, meetings with members of Congress and much more. Anyone can sign up to host or join an
action. Join us in taking collective action to demand #ClimateJustice.
Let’s call on Congress to adopt a recovery package that will address the country’s overlapping climate, racial justice, and economic crises, and create millions of jobs in the process. This can’t wait. In solidarity, CJA |
