Tomorrow is Manatee Appreciation Day (yes! It’s a real thing) -- a day to learn about and give love to some of our favorite marine mammals! Here’s a fun fact to get the learning kicked off: manatees are nicknamed “sea cows” because they eat seagrasses and other aquatic plants.
According to National Geographic, the first three months of 2021 have brought almost double the number of manatee deaths as the same time period in 2020. Scientists are searching for answers, but what is clear is that we need to take action to protect manatees and their marine habitats.
When you donate in honor of Manatee Appreciation Day, your generous donation will support the Sierra Club's work, including its conservation efforts to protect the manatee in Florida's Everglades and other magnificent wild places, so they can be enjoyed for generations to come.
BONUS: if you donate $39 or more*, you’ll have the chance to symbolically adopt a manatee (or any of our adoptable animals), which includes a 12" eco-plush manatee, a 16-page full color 8x10" booklet, which includes information about the manatee, an adoption certificate, fun animal facts, a sticker sheet, and a map of American wildlife.
Thanks for your support and happy Manatee Appreciation Day!
Team Sierra
