Last step before floor vote! No images? Click here John, Last Thursday, the state legislature took another step towards environmental justice when the Healthy Environment for All (HEAL) Act, SB 5141, passed out of the House Environment and Energy committee! We are even closer to making the HEAL Act a pivotal framework for achieving healthy environments for all communities in our state. Where you live, your income, race, or language ability shouldn’t determine how healthy and safe you are, but data shows clear disproportionate environmental health impacts in specific areas and communities in our state. The HEAL Act would define “environmental justice” in state law, outline how state agencies will solicit community input and center their needs, and establish an Environmental Justice Council to help agencies implement environmental justice. The HEAL Act is a fundamental part of our environmental justice work — together we are ensuring that equity is at the center of our work for the environment and our communities.
