Women have long been at the forefront of gun violence prevention efforts, informed by their own lived experiences. As women, mothers, daughters, sisters or neighbors, women often have a grim front-row seat to the damage gun violence brings communities. In the face of marginalization based not only on gender but also on race, sexual orientation and/or disability, they have persevered at every turn.
Their collective call to action has changed the national conversation about gun violence. Not a day goes by that we do not witness the significant impact that dedicated women make in advancing gun safety legislation across the country. On behalf of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence and the Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence, we salute and commend the women who work to end gun violence -- the team members, activists, and volunteers working with organizations across the nation -- as our celebration of women’s history month comes to a close. We celebrate the tireless efforts they will contribute throughout the year.
