I'm reaching out to ask you to split a donation between Mark Kelly's re-election and my campaign before this week's FEC deadline. Before I ask, will you give me a chance to explain why this request -- especially today -- is so important?

Mark is one of Republicans' top targets in 2022. Mitch McConnell and his allies think this is one of the two seats they stand the best chance of picking up.

But political pundits and Mark's potential opponents are waiting to see his first-quarter fundraising numbers after this FEC deadline. It's going to set the tone for the entire campaign, and if Mark posts a strong number, it can make it harder for Mitch McConnell to recruit a strong candidate or convince donors to invest in the race.

Plus, early money often has the biggest impact for campaigns. You see, what Mark raises now will help him lay the groundwork required to win. Arizona didn't flip overnight. It took a large-scale, sustained organizing effort. So I'm asking you to chip in and help him start strong:

Mark Kelly is a great friend, and I'm thrilled to have him fighting alongside me in the Senate now. His wife Gabby Giffords and I entered Congress together back in 2007, and no one has done more for the anti-gun violence cause than the two of them.

That matters a tremendous amount right now as we gear up to try to craft a bipartisan gun safety bill. In the coming weeks, Mark's partnership is going to be critical to getting it across the finish line.

This is why elections matter.

We have the Senate majority and a chance to pass the first major gun safety legislation in decades because Mark won. And that would not have happened without grassroots support. Everything you did to help us win in 2020 mattered, and now we need you again.

So if you can, please split a $3 donation between Mark's re-election and my campaign before Wednesday's FEC deadline. We cannot afford to lose a single seat, and this race is going to be one of the most competitive ones on the map.
