Hi John,
Conservatives in states like Florida and Texas are cracking down on the Big Tech censorship of conservative views points. Both states have introduced legislation to combat the threat to our freedom of speech. In Texas, Senate Bill 12 would prohibit social media companies from blocking, banning, or discriminating against a user based on their viewpoints. Defending the proposal, Governor Abbott said: “They are controlling the flow of information — and sometimes denying the flow of information.”
In Florida, the House has submitted a bill that will set new requirements for social media platforms that will smooth the way for lawsuits and penalties against social media companies that violate the new requirements. Specifically, it would bar platforms from banning candidates for office from social media because of their political beliefs.
Our first right, endowed by the Constitution, is our freedom of speech – the ability to voice our views and opinions, to represent our ideology, and to express our beliefs, without fear of censorship. Let us not be mistaken, freedom of speech is not a privilege, as the Left would like us to believe. It cannot and will not be taken away from us, thanks to conservative leadership standing up to Big Tech.
However, having to fight to let our voices be heard and represented is nothing new for conservatives. The Left would prefer our opinions remain silent. What liberals fail to understand is that, by conservatives combating censorship, all beliefs and opinions benefit. By securing our right to exist on social media platforms, everyone is granted those protections.
Social media is undoubtedly the compilation of the newspaper, the radio, and the TV set of days of yore. Being silenced on these platforms strips us of our seat at the table in important discussions. This cannot stand, and conservative state leaders will continue the fight to ensure our 1st Amendment rights will not be trampled upon by Silicon Valley.
Sincerely,
Casey
