Friend,
As Women’s History Month draws to a close, I’m honored to be part of a legacy of progressive women changemakers.
Carrying that legacy forward, this month we launched our Rooted in Community Campaign School to train a new generation of people—especially women of color—to run for local and state office.
This is an urgent project because our lived experiences and voices are missing at all levels of government. And our communities are hurting because of it.
One of our Campaign School participants, Rieanna, is pictured here canvassing in 2020’s election:
Rieanna’s love for our shared community shone through in her application to the program, where she wrote that “everyday Detroiters are my constant inspiration.” Me too! My whole life, I’ve been inspired by incredible women justice-seekers who live in or near Detroit.
And I’m so proud to inspire Rieanna to, in her own words, “want to take even more ownership to be at the front row for decision-making.” When women lead, communities thrive. Our lived experiences matter, and we deserve to have our voices heard.
Will you chip in now to honor Women’s History Month, so we can keep training and supporting progressive women of color like Rieanna to serve in public office?

Whether it was being the first Muslim woman elected to the Michigan State Legislature or being one of the first Muslim women elected to Congress, my whole career has been about breaking down barriers—and then keeping the doors wide open behind me for more women to follow.
For example, I helped elect the first Latina to the Detroit City Council and the first Asian-American woman to Michigan’s state house, and in the past few years I’ve been proud to make change happen through partnerships with other women policymakers.
Thanks to the support of people like you, our campaign has financially supported progressive women running for office up and down the ballot. Now that we’ve wrapped up our inaugural Campaign School program, we can’t wait to do more.
If you can afford it, please chip in now to honor Women’s History Month and help elect more progressive women to office.
Thank you for all you do,
Rashida
