Friends, Up until 1917, the filibuster allowed legislators to pass speaking privileges among themselves -- delaying a bill while holding the Senate floor. But it grew into a barrier to progress for decades -- weaponized by national Republicans who block legislation that would allow hardworking people across the country to thrive. And nowhere was it more prominent than when it came to basic human rights. The filibuster was used in the 1920s to block anti-lynching legislation and during the 1960s to block critical civil rights legislation -- and you can bet national Republicans will use it as a power-grab to block critical progress in Congress this year. From civil rights and climate action to the minimum wage and giving our government back to the people -- it's all on the line. The filibuster has long past outlived any usefulness that it might have had at some point a long time ago. And it's time that we end it. Jason knows what's at stake for this country and that it's critical we end the gridlock that has become common practice in Washington. He's leading transformatively to improve the lives of millions of people, children, and families all across the country. He's facing a critical end-of-quarter FEC deadline on Wednesday, and needs us to step up so he can keep defending our values. Chip in now, ahead of Wednesday's end-of-quarter deadline, to support Jason's work to end obstacles to progress >> Thanks, Ethan Wade Finance Director Jason Crow for Congress |
