Senator Joni Ernst has been at the center of efforts to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act in the Senate. Senator Ernst discusses how she is using her platform as a U.S. Senator to raise awareness, encourage difficult conversations, and fight for greater resources for all women. In this interview with former Wilson Center President and CEO Jane Harman, Senator Gillibrand says that the issue of sexual assault in the military initially found her—and the more she examined the problem, the more she realized just how much work needed to be done.
