As Senior Communications Advisor on the Mercy Corps
Jordan team, I feel lucky to share the stories of courageous girls like
Eman with you.
Eman was just 10 years old when she fled from Syria to Jordan with her
family. She suffered from war injuries and her right leg was amputated
below the knee.
Despite her challenging circumstances, Eman never lost hope. Through
physical therapy she learned to walk with a new, artificial limb and
enrolled in arts education through Mercy Corps’ inclusive education
program. Eman’s hard work and perseverance is incredibly inspiring to me,
and is illustrative of the determination that so many of the refugees
living here in Jordan possess.
[ [link removed] ]Today, you could help someone like Eman build a stronger life for
themselves and their family. And your gift could help us make up to 5x the
impact. That’s because every $1 you donate is combined with an average of
up to $4 in separate government and foundation funding, enabling us to
provide even more lifesaving assistance to people working to overcome
enormous challenges.

For Eman, arts education unlocked a passion and talent for drawing, and
provided a welcome outlet. She recently passed her Secondary Education
exam, marking a huge accomplishment as only those who pass the exam with a
good mark can apply to University. She credits her success, in part, to
the relief she found in drawing.
"For me, drawing offered a psychological remedy,"
[ Eman ]Eman in Jordan Eman said. "I was investing my skills in drawing to
express my story, so most of the drawings were
expressing my reality."

This month marks 10 long years since the Syrian conflict began. For many
families, that means 10 years of near-constant movement, 10 years of
uncertainty about where they’ll live, how they’ll support themselves, and
when — if ever — they’ll be able to return home.
For women and girls, this can mean increased exposure to gender-based
violence and a lack of opportunities to study and pursue careers of their
own, as Eman has done.
Mercy Corps is committed to working towards gender equality. When you give
today, you could not only support our efforts to give girls more safety
and better access to education — you could also help fuel our lifesaving
work for people in Syria and around the world.
We’ve set a goal to raise $65,000 by midnight, March 31. [ [link removed] ]Give now, and
together, we can help make up to 5x the impact for girls, families, and
communities facing today’s biggest crises.
