On March 24th, the U.S. recognized Equal Pay Day — the date when women symbolically “catch up” to men’s average earnings from the previous year.
On average, women still only make 81 cents for every dollar their male counterparts earn. This number is even lower for women of color.
Washington has led the way nationally to eliminate gender-based wage discrimination — starting when our state expanded existing equal pay legislation with the Equal Pay and Opportunities Act!
It’s beyond time for the rest of the nation to follow our lead by passing equal pay legislation at the federal level. That’s why we’re joining forces with groups nationwide to call on Congress to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act and close the wage gap. We need 5,000 activists to join us by midnight tomorrow to report strong support: [[link removed]]ADD YOUR NAME [[link removed]]
As the gender pay gap persists, with even wider gaps for women of color and transgender women, the economic security of millions of women and their families is at risk — especially as communities experience the continued effects of COVID-19.
Major progress has been made in Washington state, but there’s more work to do.
Join equal pay supporters across the country now by adding your name to the Paycheck Fairness Act petition today:
